After introducing the Theory of Completeness of Information – TCI in live poker, this article explores its application in a poker spot and introduces the concept of informational influence (Deutsch and Gerard, 1955). According to the TCI, 100% of the information is contained within the entire deck of 52 cards, taking into account the unseen arrangement of the cards. If one could see the entire deck after the initial deal, they would have 100% of the information available, allowing them to identify all the skills they possess.
Informational influence and communication in live poker
However, players can only see five cards from the board and their two pocket cards, totaling seven out of 52 cards. Therefore, only a portion of the information contained in the deck is known. This is where informational influence comes into play, manifesting as the amount of information accessible at each stage of the spot. The new paradigm of communication theories provides a tool that, through a process of decomposition and signification, helps to define “the probability value realized within many combinatorial possibilities” at each stage of the spot. In the field of Semiotics and Philosophy of Language, a group of researchers is dedicated to studying communication according to the principles of Traits Semantics.
